The face of boxing has his sights set on a global takeover.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is arguably already the most popular boxer that the sweet science has to offer today.

And once the coronavirus pandemic subsides, Alvarez not only has his sights set on having his first fight in Mexico since 2011, but also to become more of an international star, period.

"It could be, now that the platform for Mexico will enter, it will not be long before a fight by Saul can take place here, if it is not this (it could be) next year," Alvarez's trainer, Eddy Reynoso, said about the star fighting in his native Mexico soon, as reported by TVAzteca.com.

Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez added that Alvarez having a bout in Mexico would be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the four-division world champ's planned global checklist.

“He wants to fight abroad and we have talked to him about Japan, a homecoming in Mexico and the UK," Gomez said. "He has considered all those options and before retiring, he will fight abroad. We were considering the UK. It can happen in the next two years.

"He wants to become a more international star, not just fight in the United States," Gomez continued. "He wants to be bigger than he is now, he has fans all over the world and he wants to take advantage of that."

Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) has only fought in Mexico and the U.S. through 56 pro fights, thus giving the 29-year-old more urgency to hold fights and energize markets in different parts of the world.
