Conor Benn continues to be linked to a fight with Gervonta Davis, but the British star has been told to take his time before facing the Baltimore man.  

Carl Froch, a former world champion at super-middleweight, is fully aware of what it takes to share the ring with the world’s best fighters, and he’s urged Benn to slow down. 

Benn had his first outing of 2024 earlier this month when he outpointed New York’s Peter Dobson in Las Vegas.  

In the immediate aftermath of that fight, Benn was linked to a fight with many of boxing’s biggest names with Eddie Hearn admitting he’d be making ‘Tank’ an offer. Froch has had his say on the situation. 

“I’m interested in the Gervonta Davis fight. He’s the road killer from Baltimore and half of his friends are either dead or in prison,” said Froch when speaking to <a href="https://www.boxingscene.com/froch-believes-conor-benn-needs-take-his-time-stay-away-from-gervonta-davis-now--181401">BoxingScene</a> via <a href="https://instantcasino.com/news/carl-froch-exclusive/">Instant Casino</a>. 

“He’s one tough motherf-----, like a real hard man and he’s a weight division below Conor Benn. But I don’t think that’s a fight Conor Benn should be calling out. I just think Conor just needs to take his time a little bit. 

“I know he’s desperate to fight and he wants to become a world champion, but you can’t jump in with these guys. You need a stepping stone.”

Louis Saha believes a pair of Bayern Munich players would fit in well at Manchester United.

Saha is a former Man United striker and he thinks that either Joshua Kimmich or Alphonso Davies — or both — would fit in well at Old Trafford as the club are expected to undergo a shake-up under new minority owner Jim Ratcliffe, who will also assume football operations.

The Bayern duo are among a number of players linked to United in a recent ESPN report, and Saha told <a href="https://insights.betfred.com/newsroom/louis-saha-champions-league-qualification-is-achievable-for-manchester-united/">Betfred</a> that both Kimmich and Davies offer a wealth of experience for a club in transition.

“Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies are two extremely experienced players, especially Kimmich," Saha said. "Kimmich would obviously be a great fit because he’s one of the fittest players in Europe and is capable of running games and is very slick.

"He and Davies are both quality players, there’s no doubting that. 

Saha also commented on the rumored strategy behind a potential pursuit of Kimmich and Davies, as well as Davies' Canada international teammate Jonathan David and Nice midfielder Khéphren Thuram — all players who have one year left on their existing contracts.

The 45-year-old warned that there could be a downside to signing such players and that United may need to make themselves more attractive as a destination club for such high-profile transfer targets.

“Going for players with one year remaining on their contract is a smart strategy, but sometimes it doesn’t work out," he said.

"At this moment, Mason Mount hasn’t been a success at Manchester United, so ultimately it’s dependent on the character of the players, their suitability to the Premier League, the style of the team and many other factors.  

“Other teams will be interested in these players if their contracts are running down, so it won’t be easy for Manchester United to pull off any of these signings.

"If Manchester United are unable to offer these players Champions League next season, then that will be an advantage to certain other clubs looking to sign them.”

Manchester United are expected to be big players in the summer transfer market as the club begin life under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently bought a minority stake in the Red Devils and will assume control of footballing operations.

With United known to be looking around for new players, several have already been linked to a future move to Old Trafford. Among them are Ligue 1 duo Jonathan David and Khéphren Thuram, whom ESPN reported last week are on the English club's radar.

A former Red Devil believes both players could make an impact at Man United, with Lille's David a long-established goal scorer in the French top flight and Thuram turning heads in Nice's midfield.

"I follow Khéphren as he plays next door to me and he has the power to play for any club in England, that’s for sure and it wouldn’t be a surprise to me at all if a move to England happens for him.

"For anyone who follows Ligue 1, they will understand that it’s the same for Jonathan David because he’s a really strong striker, he’s got a lot of quality and he’s a good player.

"If they move to the Premier League, both these players will need time to adapt but they’re certainly good players."

Former WBO cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie is considering a move up to heavyweight or bridgerweight, according to his promoter Ben Shalom.

Okolie fought last year against Chris Billam-Smith, who emerged with his title.

That was in May 2023, and Okolie has not fought since, but is plotting the best method of return.

Speaking to <a href="https://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12183/13070553/lawrence-okolie-eyes-move-up-in-weight-as-he-plots-world-championship-comeback-he-can-really-let-the-shackles-off" target="_blank">Sky Sports</a>, Shalom said that one possibility is a move up to heavyweight, potentially with a stopover at bridgerweight, the relatively new division between heavyweight and cruiserweight.

"I think we're going to look to move up to heavyweight or fight immediately for a world title at bridgerweight,” Shalom said.

"The reason his performances haven't been at the level he was used to is, I do think, the weight, as a 6' 6” guy. This is personal opinion, and especially at that top level, [that] was getting in the way of his very best performances," the promoter explained.

"I think he's looking very seriously at the heavyweight division, possibly bridgerweight first and I think that's where we're going to see Lawrence in the latter stages of his career.

"He's a really talented fighter and so I just think the story hasn't even begun for Lawrence Okolie. Cast your mind back to cruiserweights Oleksandr Usyk and David Haye and people that have really made their legacy in the heavyweight division.

"He's a lot bigger than those guys. His frame's a lot bigger, he's had to work extremely hard to do what he's done in the cruiserweight division and sometimes fighters don't talk about the struggles they go through.

"The Lawrence Okolie story is just about to begin and I think it's going to be at a weight division that suits where he's at."

Former Liverpool midfielder Gary McAllister believes that Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield exit will have no bearing on the future’s of either Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk.

Both the striker and defender have contracts that expire at the end of next season, leading to speculation that they will be on their way out.

That had already been the case for Salah after he appeared to come close to a Saudi Pro League exit last year, but the rumours have intensified for many players at Liverpool following the decision of Klopp to leave the club at the end of the current season.

However, McAllister thinks that few players will be looking to leave because Liverpool remain one of the best club in the world.

"Contract speculation has been rampant since Jurgen Klopp made his announcement last season, but Liverpool still have an amazing pull.

Edgar Berlanga is ready to test himself against Jaime Munguia in what would be a huge fight at super-middleweight.  

The Puerto Rican puncher returns to action later this month when he faces Padraig McCrory in Florida knowing that a win can open the door for a huge fight later in the year. 

Last month, Munguia sent a stern warning to the 168lbs division when he dismantled John Ryder in an impressive performance that will have put his rivals on notice.  

Berlanga is hoping for a similar outing when he faces McCrory and he’s already looking forward to a future showdown with Munguia. 

“Munguia is a big fight for me on the horizon,” said Berlanga when speaking to <a href="https://www.boxingscene.com/berlanga-promises-ko-munguia-foty-i-really-want-fight--181372">BoxingScene</a>. “We were trying to make that fight happen, but the numbers just weren't right.  

“We figured we will meet in the future. Everything has to make sense. I have never ducked anyone in my life, ever. It just has to be fair. I feel like that fight is one of the biggest fights in boxing. I feel that we should have fair play with the money.  

“We should both be able to eat at the same time. It's just patience. Hopefully, that's a fight we can make this year for the fans. It would be something crazy for the sport of boxing.”

Lawrence Okolie could be about to leave the cruiserweight division and make the jump to heavyweight.  

The 2016 Olympian, a former WBO champion, had things his own way at 200lbs until he ran into Chris Billam-Smith last year and lost his world title when he was dropped multiple times before losing on points. 

Now seeking a fresh challenge, Okolie is considering a leap in weight class with heavyweight and bridgerweight both options for the London man.  

Ben Shalom, Okolie’s promoter, has spoken about the need to go up in weight due to Okolie’s size and heavyweight, where there’s plenty of options, is most certainly an option. 

"I think we're going to look to move up to heavyweight or fight immediately for a world title at bridgerweight," said Shalom when speaking to <a href="https://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12183/13070553/lawrence-okolie-eyes-move-up-in-weight-as-he-plots-world-championship-comeback-he-can-really-let-the-shackles-off">Sky Sports</a>. 

"The reason his performances haven't been at the level he was used to is, I do think, the weight, as a 6' 6" guy. This is personal opinion, and especially at that top level, [that] was getting in the way of his very best performances. 

"I think he's looking very seriously at the heavyweight division, possibly bridgerweight first and I think that's where we're going to see Lawrence in the latter stages of his career.”

Major things were expected of David Price when he turned professional in Liverpool in 2009.  

A star amateur who collected Olympic bronze the year before he turned professional, Price’s ceiling was high when he turned pro due to his incredible power and loyal fanbase in his home city. 

After a promising start that included first round wins over the likes of John McDermott and Audley Harrison, Price’s career was turned upside down when he was defeated by Tony Thompson in 2013. 

In an immediate rematch, Price enlisted the services of Lennox Lewis, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, but the changes made didn't help as Thompson was once again successful. 

Despite Lewis’ impeccable credentials as a fighter, it didn't transfer over to the coaching side of boxing, and Price has lifted the lid on that period of his career. 

"Another regret was going to train with Lennox Lewis for the rematch because it was the worst timing ever to bring someone new into the fold who tried to change so much of what was already working,” said Price when speaking to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jARlXIlz384&t=618s">iFLTV</a>. 

“I got beat in the first fight with one punch that went round the back of my head. The referee didn’t even give me a count, he just waved the fight off, and that was the only blip I’d had. 

“I then went to Canada, trained with Lennox and changed everything about my training and my style, and it was a regret taking the fight that soon.”

Spike O’Sullivan backed Chris Eubank Jr. to “annihilate” Conor Benn should the pair fight.

The duo were due to meet at the end of 2022, but they failed to meet after the fight was called off, and there was speculation that they were lined up to meet last year.

When that fell through, attention turned to early 2024. However, Eubank Jr. has yet to decide on his next opponent after his rematch win against Liam Smith last year.

Benn fought Peter Dobson earlier this year, and has been linked with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, but is similarly without an official next fight.

Speaking to <a href="https://betway.com/en/sports/cat/boxing" target="_blank">Betway</a>, O’Sullivan backed Eubank Jr. to come through: "Fair play to Chris Eubank Jr for coming back and beating Liam Smith, he was really good and it was the best I had ever seen him. 

“It was similar to when he faced me, he had the bit between his teeth and looked really up for it and seemed p****d off. Conor Benn was really poor the other weekend and would be lucky to fight Chris Eubank Jr, he would f*** him up badly.

“Chris Eubank Jr isn’t a fool, he’s an intelligent man and will be licking his lips after seeing Conor Benn’s performance over the other weekend, he would absolutely annihilate him. 
 
“Eubank was looking for Golovkin for a long time so maybe he will fight him next if the Conor Benn fight doesn’t happen. There wouldn’t be a title on the line for the fight but that would be a very interesting fight and he is an underrated fighter at middleweight.

“When he stepped up to super middleweight and lost to George Groves and fought bigger guys so there was no shame losing to them. As a middleweight he is a formidable opponent.”

The German announced that he was ‘running out of energy’ at Anfield and had decided to step away from football for a period.

The Frenchman said: “For me, I said at the beginning of the season that Arsenal will win the Premier League next season. They will be close this year but everybody is talking about 

“Liverpool because it’s Jurgen Klopp’s last season with the club but Manchester City will still be there. For me, City is going to win the Premier League but next season, I think Arsenal will win the Premier League because they’ll have more experience.

“Can Arteta replicate Klopp’s legacy? I think he already has the fans and the players on his side but what he needs to do now is to win titles and he’s very close. 

“When he will win the Premier League with Arsenal, I think they will stay on top for a few years.”

Former Manchester United midfielder Gordon Strachan has identified the two key reasons for Rasmus Hojlund’s upturn in fortunes.

The Danish youngster arrived as a big-money signing from Atalanta in the summer but struggled to find the net in the first half of the season.

Since then, though, he has gone on a fine scoring streak and now has 11 goals for the club, a better return than he managed for the Serie A side last season.

The 21-year-old appears a changed man on the pitch, and speaking to Lord Ping, Strachan credited improved confidence following the goals, as well as a better tactical understanding, for the improvement.

He said: “It’s amazing how much confidence can transform a footballers form, particularly strikers. When you’re lacking in confidence, it can feel like you’re running in concrete boots and then suddenly you score a goal and you’re back.

"It couldn’t have been easy for the young man to join Manchester United at such a young age and be expected to carry the goalscoring burden.

"All eyes have been on him since he joined the club. United’s wingers are fairly static under Erik ten Hag, they stay out wide and that can leave Hojlund isolated.

"Then you start looking for the ball, so you’re moving further away from the part of their pitch where you can be at your most dangerous.

"If you don’t have players around you, that creates problems for strikers and that was definitely an issue for him earlier in the season.

"He has been adapting to a new team in a new league under a new manager. It can take time for a player to find their rhythm and I think that is happening for him at United.”
