Alexander Povetkin’s promoters have denied that any date has been agreed to for a rematch with Dillian Whyte.
World of Boxing contradicted Eddie Hearn’s comments on Tuesday which suggested that a date had been agreed for November 14 or 21 in order to prevent the fight being pushed back into 2021.
Whyte expressed his desire to exercise his rematch clause almost immediately after he came around from his surprise knockout against the 41-year-old Russian.
Povetkin is now the WBC interim challenger but no deadline has been set for a mandatory bout with Tyson Fury, whose next event is likely to be against Deontay Wilder in December, with a fight with Anthony Joshua expected to follow in 2021.
Hearn told IFL TV. "There's not many in boxing that honour contracts and honour obligations and their word
"Andrey Ryabinksiy, Vadim Kornilov and World of Boxing, even if we didn't have a contract, and we had a shake of the hand or an agreement, they would still do it. These are proper, proper people.
"They don't want to wait till February/March so we will go November 14, or November 21."
RT has reported that World of Boxing has rejected the idea that a date has been set, saying: "We have no confirmation or information.
"There has been contact. There will be a rematch, we just don't know when. About November 21 we don't have any information."
Hearn is keen to schedule a match for November with his star client Joshua set to take on Kubrat Pulev in December.
