Junior lightweight champion Alycia Baumgardner praised Eddie Hearn for his commitment to women’s boxing.
The current WBC beltholder attended the Madison Square Garden epic between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, shown live on DAZN, at the end of April.
After watching the spectacular event, put on by Hearn and MVP’s Jake Paul, she told BoxingScene.com that she hoped to enjoy a similar event in future.
“To be in this atmosphere says I belong here and that this is going to happen for me in the future,” Baumgardner said. “I’m able to see this event, sit back and watch, and see my career is going to unfold into something big like this.”
Earlier in the month, Baumgardner had defended her WBC strap in a ten-round fight with Edith Soledad Matthysse, and later this year is now expected to fight unbeaten IBF and WBO champion. Mikaela Mayer.
“The experience with Matchroom has been amazing,” continued Baumgardner. “They treat me well. They’ve treated me right since I fought Terri Harper as if I was champion.
“So now as champion, they treat me as such. I’m grateful to be with a team like them and with Eddie Hearn who promotes women’s boxing at the highest level.”
