Amanda Serrano or Claressa Shields - who is the better pound-for-pound fighter?

Amanda Serrano or Claressa Shields - who is the better pound-for-pound fighter?DAZN
The women's pound-for-pound rankings was debated on The DAZN Boxing Show following Claressa Shields' victory on Saturday night.

2022 is set to be a huge year for women's boxing with two mega fights scheduled to take place.

First is the historic undisputed lightweight title clash between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden on April 30th, a fight which can be seen exclusively live on DAZN.

Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall should then be going head-to-head the following summer for the undisputed women's middleweight title.

But who will be crowned the number one women's pound-for-pound fighter, the winner of Taylor vs. Serrano or Shields vs. Marshall?

This was a topic of debate on The DAZN Boxing Show after Shields, who is ranked third, failed to move above Serrano in second following her win against Ema Kozin last weekend on DAZN's list.

"It’s a little tricky because Claressa said Katie vs. Amanda is bigger because those two are very accomplished," Barak responded when asked who would rise to the top of the rankings.

"Now Claressa is probably the most accomplished, not probably, she is the most accomplished in boxing."

"You can argue that with all the divisions that Amanda Serrano won titles in," Ak claimed.

Barak then went onto explain why Shields should be considered higher in the rankings than Serrano, citing the fact that the Puerto Rican's success across seven weight divisions was partly due to the number of vacant title she fought for.

"I don’t think you can argue that, when you are beating champions it holds a little bit more weight than when you get vacant belts.

"Listen, I think it’s amazing what she [Serrano] did, but Amanda Serrano calls Claressa Shields the ‘GWOAT’. I know she’s humble and she’s respectful, but she calls her the 'GWOAT'.

"Undisputed is just a higher level, because hardly anybody has ever done that."

Barak then went onto say: "Now it’s amazing what Serrano has done as well, but undisputed in two weight classes and she’s [Shields] also a three division champ and she might then mess around and become undisputed again a third time in the same division, that’s kind of hefty.

"It’s hard to put somebody on top of her, but when you talk about the last fights, Amanda Serrano has been killing everybody.

"The winner of Serrano vs. Katie would mean more to the sport and that’s not Claressa’s fault because like she said, I’m fighting a woman in Savannah Marshall who only has one world title."
