Amanda Serrano believes that her upcoming fight with Yamileth Mercado is bigger than a potential match-up with Katie Taylor.
Serrano is a unified featherweight champion while Taylor is the undisputed lightweight champion. The pair have long been rumoured to be on a course to meet, but Mercado is first up.
Speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, Serrano claimed that the fight, on the Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley undercard, is a bigger bout than any match-up against Taylor.
“I believe so,” she stated.
“Because this is a breaking point I think for female boxers. Showtime pay-per-view, you know. This is a big step for female boxing and I'm truly excited to go out and put up a great performance.
“And you know, I mean every fight is a big fight, and especially that fight with Katie Taylor is gonna be a great fight, but I think this is a breaking point for females.”
