Andy Ruiz gives promising update on potential fight with former world champion Deontay Wilder

Andy Ruiz gives promising update on potential fight with former world champion Deontay WilderDAZN
Andy Ruiz Jr. is yet to fight in 2023.

Former unified world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. is hoping a fight with the hard-hitting Deontay Wilder can still be made.

For a number of months the two had been linked to go head-to-head in a WBC world heavyweight title eliminator with the winner being the mandatory challenger for the belt currently held by Tyson Fury.

However, a fight between Ruiz and Wilder failed to get made with both camps blaming each other for numerous issues with a prospective deal and as a result, and the WBC withdrew its order for the two Americans to face each other.

Now Ruiz has revealed that talks for a meeting with Wilder are back on after their respective teams settled their differences.

“That fight is not lost," Ruiz told Blue Blood Sports TV

"These guys get on my nerves, but we still in talks, man. We back in talks.

"There was a lot of apologising going on and stuff like that, but it’s well received. We’ll see what happens.”

Ruiz last fought in September 2022 when he beat former world title challenger Luis Ortiz in Los Angeles.
