Anthony Joshua claims 'people don't respect' Oleksandr Usyk's powerDAZN
Anthony Joshua believes that people do not respect the power offered by former cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua said that "people don't respect" the power of potential rival Oleksandr Usyk.

Usyk, due to fight Dereck Chisora on Saturday night, moved up from the cruiserweight division and his speed may impress observers more than his strength.

Joshua is due to fight Usyk as a mandatory challenger in 2021, but the four-belt champion has suggested he may vacate his WBO championship in order to ensure he takes on Tyson Fury.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Joshua compared Usyk’s style compared to what he believed was his more rounded set of abilities.

"When I boxed Andy Ruiz Jr in the second fight I adapted to the Usyk style,” he explained.

"Hit and don't get hit, the sweet science of boxing. You learn that from the amateurs.

"I was amateur for two-and-a-half years so was still adapting to different styles. Usyk was amateur for a long time so he has taken the 'hit and don't get hit' style into the pros.”

Joshua believes that his professional experience amongst the most powerful men in boxing has given him the ability to dish out his own punishment.

"The good thing that helped me? Sometimes I know to sit down on my feet and hurt someone.

"You've got to let them know that you're there because all that pitty-patty stuff after 12 rounds? Sometimes people don't respect that type of power."

Joshua is due to fight Kubrat Pulev on 12 December before aiming to take on Fury for his WBC title.

Usyk's co-promoter Alexander Krassyuk is refusing to delay a Joshua-Usyk fight any longer.

"He has agreed to let AJ versus Kubrat Pulev happen, with regards that the winner fights him next. This statement is still solid.

"Our plan is: A) beat Derek Chisora, B) push AJ to comply with WBO rules or vacate the title, C) defeat AJ, or any other WBO champion or contender, and become the heavyweight champion. Simple and practical."
