The Matchroom head defended his fighter against Bob Arum's outburst.

Eddie Hearn has dismissed claims from Bob Arum that Anthony Joshua is not an elite athlete.

Arum was less than impressed by the IBF, WBA and WBO champion, and speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, Joshua’s Matchroom promoter could not back the claims.

Joshua was due to fight Arum’s client, WBC champion Tyson Fury, this August in Saudi Arabia to settle the status of the undisputed heavyweight boxer.

However Deontay Wilder won his arbitration claim to force through a trilogy rematch and the pair of them will now fight in October, after a July bout fell through due to Fury contracting Covid-19.

Arum may simply have been indulging in mind games, and is often one of the most provocative figures in the sport, but Hearn had little time for this latest utterance.

“He may have one of the best resumes in boxing,” he said.

“So now we're debating whether he's actually any good. I mean, I just It baffles me that this guy doesn't get more credit.

“All he's ever done is worked as hard as he can, fighting the very best and never got a challenge or a mandatory or anyone in the division.”
