Lennox Lewis had pointed criticism toward Anthony Joshua over his shocking seventh-round TKO loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. last June. But the boxing legend showered praised onto "AJ" for redeeming himself in what Lewis called a "tactical fight" in Joshua's unanimous decision win over Ruiz in December.
Lewis has already established himself as an all-time great British heavyweight champion, but Joshua and Tyson Fury are hot on his heels. Perhaps that's why Joshua named Lewis as his dream opponent during Sky Sports' "Doing The Rounds" show recently. Not only would AJ have loved to test Lewis in his prime, but he also has the ideal venue in mind.
"Lennox Lewis at Wembley Stadium," Joshua said, "the best of Britain!"
Joshua also saved one of his quick-fire rounds for Fury. When asked about one superpower that he'd like to have for 24 hours, Joshua said with a smile: "My superpower would be to make this right hand more powerful than it is and knock Tyson Fury out with it in 24 hours."
Joshua having a little fun aimed at Fury comes after he invited "The Gypsy King" more seriously to "come fight me" during a separate conversation with Sky Sports earlier in the week.
"If you really want to say you're No. 1, come fight me," Joshua said. "Let's get it on. I've got the rest of the belts, so it only makes sense. That proves that I'm the unified heavyweight champion of the world. He's the WBC champion of the world. What that will prove, me and him fighting, is that there will be one dominant figure in the heavyweight division that will have all of the belts and become undisputed."
While having an undisputed title fight between Joshua and Fury for heavyweight supremacy would be a mouth-watering scenario once the coronavirus pandemic ends, Joshua is still expected to face mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev, while Fury is slated to fight Deontay Wilder in a trilogy bout this fall.
