Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder: Eddie Hearn on chances of March fight

The Day of Reckoning has thrown the clash into doubt.

Eddie Hearn explained why Deontay Wilder’s mooted fight with Anthony Joshua is no longer likely.

Neither Wilder nor Joshua ruled out the long-awaited match-up despite Wilder’s defeat to Joseph Parker a couple of weeks ago.

Joshua himself held up his end of the bargain, handily defeating Otto Wallin with a stoppage victory, but he now seems on course to meet Filip Hrgovic as the division waits for Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk to shake out in February.

The Bronze Bomber’s defeat led to speculation that he might well retire, with his one-punch power not an issue for Parker at any point in their fight at the Day of Reckoning.

Speaking to IFL TV, Joshua’s promoter Hearn believes that there is reduced enthusiasm to see Joshua meet Wilder in March.

He said: “The fight’s dead for now. The people who wanted to put the fight on no longer see that as the fight that it was.

“The numbers don’t work now because Wilder’s a busted flush at the moment. It’s a mismatch in my opinion.”
