Dmitry Bivol has admitted to feeling ‘empty’ after losing his world title in a superb encounter against Artur Beterbiev.
Bivol put up a brilliant effort in the undisputed battle, but his attempts to hold all four world titles fell short as he was defeated via majority decision.
Bivol began the bout brilliantly as he built up an early lead, but the pressure from Beterbiev took its tool in the closing rounds and it was there where the damage was done.
Beterbiev was able to win the last three rounds on all the scorecards, and that was vital in getting him over the line.
Bivol entered the contest a small favourite and he was looking to add to his impressive record that also features a win over Canelo Alvarez.
Despite the setback, Bivol was applauded for playing his part in a memorable fight, but he couldn't help but show his emotions in the immediate aftermath.
"I feel empty emotionally now," said Bivol when speaking to Sky Sports .
"I went to the ring only to win this fight, but I don't have my belt."
Bivol’s next move is currently unconfirmed, but there has been speculation linking him to an immediate rematch with Beterbiev.
