Ben Whittaker has said he is ready to drop down to super middleweight for a fight.
Whittaker has made his name at light heavyweight, and given his 6’3” frame, it seems inevitable that he will move up to cruiserweight at the very least as he approaches 30.
However, given he is only 26, he probably has more latitude to drop weight if there was a huge fight on offer - most fighters would gladly accept the challenge of moving weight classes if they could take on Canelo Alvarez, for example.
For now, the British former Olympian is preparing for a clash with Eworitse Ezra Arenyeka on June 15 (live on Peacock in the US).
Speaking to BoxingScene, he suggested he could move either up or down a division should his career demand it.
“If I really, really needed to, I could make 168, super middle,” he said. “But eventually, I think the way I’m growing, the way I’m built, I could eventually go to cruiserweight.”
