Bernard Hopkins reveals what caused the altercation at the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia weigh-inDAZN

Tempers certainly flared in the build-up to last week's fight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.

As fight week progressed, it was no surprise that the tension was slowly rising and it all came to a head when there was an altercation at Friday's weigh-in which saw the teams of both fighters having to be separated.

One man who was at the centre of it all was former multi-world champion and current member of Golden Boy Promotions Bernard Hopkins.

Speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show, Hopkins revealed that he had problems with how the weigh-in was staged well before Davis and Garcia went head-to-head.

"We were five or six minutes away from the stage getting ready to weigh the main event and all of a sudden you had 10 or more bodyguard, entourage on ‘Tank’s’ end," Hopkins said.

"But before then you have one of the greats of my era up on stage basically in the middle like he’s [Mike Tyson] a promoter or they put him in that position which I believe the other side, PBC put him in.

"What the f—k is Mike Tyson doing up on stage in the middle of the biggest this year?"

Hopkins then found himself in a heated exchange with Davis and his team during the final face off as he looked to make the occasion as comfortable as possible for Garcia.

But while numerous accusations are being made as to what happened including Hopkins allegedly having testosterone on his hands when attempting to touch Davis, the 58-year-old was not surprised by how 'Tank' reacted.

"'Tank' reacted the way you were supposed to react," Hopkins continued.

"It isn’t personal it’s only personal when you get in the ring, it’s a war in and out of the ring.

"From negotiations to the stare down, it's who can get the best leverage for their fighter."
