Saunders has the opportunity to cause a huge shock on May 8th. Before that, the outspoken WBO champion had some advice for his former opponent.

Billy Joe Saunders is less than three weeks away from the biggest fight of his career as he prepares to take on Canelo Alvarez on May 8th, live exclusively on DAZN .

The 12st unification, which takes place at Texas’ AT&T Stadium, sees the majority of boxing’s super-middleweight titles on the line but Saunders believes that his Mexican rival is already looking past him.

With Canelo plying his trade in numerous weight divisions in recent years, speculation is frenzied surrounding his potential opponents. With rumours within boxing circles suggesting Canelo is fond of a fight with IBF champion Caleb Plant later this year, Saunders was quick to offer his verdict on the matter.

“I’m a bit disappointed,” revealed Saunders when speaking to IFL TV . “He’s already planning venues for the Caleb Plant fight. I’ll let the full world see what I can do and everybody on the night. That’s all I can do.”

As well as discussing Canelo’s future rivals, the subject was raised on an old foe of Saunders’ when the undefeated Brit was asked about Chris Eubank Jr’s £10k bet on Canelo to win within the scheduled 12 round distance.

“He should’ve put the ten grand down to beat me. One of his family members or himself should've put ten thousand quid on himself beating me but they didn’t because they knew. He’s just trying to give himself a bit of publicity to talk around this sort of magnitude of fight.

“Only the elite get to this level. He’s not elite and what proves he’s not elite is that he’s fighting Marcus Morrison next. No disrespect to him [Morrison], lovely kid and I really wish all the best in his career but there’s levels in boxing.

"Get that ten thousand quid, book yourself a flight and get yourself ringside because that’s the closest you’re ever going to get to this magnitude of fight.”
