Amateur boxing is set to suffer a major blow with the sport not being included in the programme for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The decision has been taken due to a number of governance issues, but organisers have not ruled out boxing being included in the future.
An independent investigation in 2021 into the 2016 tournament in Rio de Janiero confirmed that a number of boxing bouts were corrupted as part of a "bout manipulation" scheme that was in action during the event.
Since the findings were made public, AIBA claimed that extensive reforms have been made to protect sporting integrity.
The AIBA statement said it "noted the findings regarding the Rio 2016 boxing tournament with concern and confirmed that extensive reforms have been implemented to ensure sporting integrity at current AIBA competitions".
An Olympic medal is the most coveted prize for any amateur boxer and has often been the starting point for many of the big names in the professional ranks.
Anthony Joshua, Katie Taylor, Oleksandr Usyk and Vasiliy Lomachenko are just some of the fighters that have benefitted from success in the Olympics.
Now a number of Olympic boxing teams including Team GB have taken to social media to start a campaign to ensure boxing is included in the programme for the 2028 games.
