Backstage at the Terence Crawford-Errol Spence Jr. weigh-in at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last July was the scene of Caleb Plant smacking Jermall Charlo after the former believes he was disrespected.
Fast forward and a bout pitting Plant vs. Charlo hasn't come to fruition just yet, though Plant still believes it would make for a "great fight."
Plant is slated to fight Trevor McCumby on September 14, live on DAZN, as part of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga main card. When asked who he'd like to target after that fight, Plant was quick to name Charlo.
"I feel like the Charlo fight is a great fight," Plant told members of the media recently, as reported by FightHype.com. "He's been back in the gym training, hopefully he's got his head on straight and that will be a big fight for boxing so we'll see."
Charlo, a former WBC middleweight world champion, put together five title defenses before a lengthy two-plus years out of the ring.
He returned to action in November, delivering a unanimous decision over José Benavidez Jr., but hasn't fought this year.
Plant will enter the McCumby fight coming off a unanimous decision loss to David Benavidez last March.
