Can Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis beat Ryan Garcia?DAZN

The DAZN Boxing Show discussed Ryan Garcia’s chances against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Garcia fights Javier Fortuna live on DAZN on July 16 as the lightweight continues his comeback after fighting experienced Ghanaian Emmanuel Tagoe at a 139lb catchweight earlier this year.

Both Tank and Garcia have been linked with a fight for much of the last two years.

Discussing Canelo Alvarez’s opinion that Tank would beat Garcia, former world champion fighter Sergio Mora said on JABS that the Mexican has the inside track on the Californian.

“Fact. I’m going with what Canelo said, because Canelo is still one of the best fighters in the world,” he told Chris Mannix.

“He knows the good and the bad of Ryan Garcia - the training habits. He got to see it first hand because they were stable mates.

“He was at Eddy Reynoso’s gym back then. They were on a great streak, back-to-back knockouts, the best win of his career over Luke Campbell. Then he decided to switch trainers, and decided to change camps. He had a good win over Tagoe that went the distance.

“If you look at the resume he was doing everything right, Ryan Garcia was, but all that’s going  to be twisted around now because of the change.”

Mora continued, explaining that he thinks 27-year-old Davis has the right style to trouble the 23-year-old American.

“So Tank Davis he doesn’t have the resume, that you always keep harping on,” he said. “Tank Davis is still a beast, a southpaw power puncher, relentless, that left handed angle, the short stance, he’s just a tank.”

Mora predicted that the outcome would be, “Tank running over Ryan Garcia in under three rounds.

“Two fights ago, Tank had his hands full against Isaac Cruz, but Cruz is a short, strong power puncher who was able to get on the inside. Two short fighters who can bang.

“Rolly Romero is slightly taller and was able to do well, but he didn’t have the experience and once Tank closed the distance, we saw what happened, and he knocked him out. The same thing happens with Garcia.

“Both of them actually get hurt in that fight. It’s going to be exciting while it lasts but you can’t compare the maturity and ring experience that Tank has to Ryan Garcia.”
