Canelo Alvarez has not ruled out facing Jake Paul at some stage in his career. The Mexican icon and boxing’s pound-for-pound king, challenges Dmitry Bivol for the WBA light-heavyweight title this Saturday night in Las Vegas, exclusively live on DAZN (excluding Mexico and Latin America), but the subject of Jake Paul was once again raised ahead of his fascinating 175lbs clash.
The popular YouTuber was part of the promotional set up last weekend where his client Amanda Serrano lost to Katie Taylor in an epic encounter. Set to return to the ring in August, Paul is setting his sights high in boxing, and they don’t come any loftier than Canelo. Despite the gulf in class and experience, Canelo is remaining open-minded on a potential clash.
"I always wonder why they ask me about Jake Paul, especially for that fight," mulled Canelo when speaking to DAZN.
“Maybe in two years we could talk about that. Maybe [the fans] would love me for knocking him out. I hope he gets a lot better and does a great job. I hope he takes it seriously.”
On Paul’s presence in boxing, Canelo added, "Everything is good for boxing, even everything that brings fans to this is good. It's not crazy for him to think about fighting me, to dream about something like that. You need to put goals in your mind, dreams. Like I said, it's a good dream."
