Canelo Alvarez was once a big rival of Floyd Mayweather, but it appears that there’s now a ton of respect between the highly talented pair.
In 2013, Canelo was intended to be a big test for Mayweather as they took part in a huge event that was eventually won by the Michigan man in impressive fashion.
Since that defeat, Canelo has pushed on to become the face of boxing after Mayweather’s retirement, and he faces his fellow Mexican, Jaime Munguia, on May 4.
Mayweather has previously stated that Canelo has nothing to prove following his illustrious list of achievements, and the praise means a lot to the current super-middleweight champion.
“That was coming from him, who has been and done everything, so I feel special,” said Canelo when speaking to Little Giant Boxing.
“I feel good. I’m here to make history, and that’s it, and I’m going to continue to do it.”
