Canelo Alvarez reveals offer he would consider for David Benavidez fightGettyImages
The undisputed super middleweight champion returns to action later this year.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's first fight of 2024 has been announced, but it is not one many fans have been craving.

The undisputed super middleweight champion returns on May 4 when he faces fellow Mexican Jaime Munguia in Las Vegas, and while it has the potential to be an intriguing encounter, there is disappointment that Alvarez is not taking on David Benavidez.

Benavidez has appeared to be at the front of the queue for a number of years when it comes to facing one of the world's best pound-for-pound fighters, but for one reason or another, the contest has failed to materialise.

This led to some accusations that Alvarez is avoiding the American, and at the launch press conference for his meeting with Munguia on Tuesday, the super middleweight champion revealed that he would only consider facing Benavidez if there is a sizable offer on the table.

"Maybe but he brings nothing to the table for me," Alvarez told reporters when asked if a meeting with Benavidez is one of the biggest fights to make in boxing right now.

"But if a promoter who I work with offers $150m or $200m then I will fight tomorrow. That's the only reason I will fight with him."
