Canelo Alvarez says he would 'need one hand' to defeat Conor McGregorEd Mullholland/Matchroom

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez isn't known as a big trash talker, but on occasion the undisputed super middleweight champion can unleash a zinger.

Such was the case on Tuesday, when Canelo respnded to a post by MMA superstar Conor McGregor on X (formerly Twitter).

McGregor wrote a seemingly innocuous post lauding the skills of Floyd Mayweather Jr., quoting a post that featured a video clip of Mayweather's 2013 fight against Canelo, which was the Mexican's first defeat.

McGregor complimented Mayweather's performance against Canelo as "one of the greatest in professional boxing", adding that he "landed more shots on Floyd than Canelo" did during the UFC star's 2017 bout with the undefeated former four-weight champion.

That prompted a rare response from Canelo, who quoted McGregor's post and told the Irish fighter that he would not pose a problem if they were to step into the ring together.

"I just need one hand with you and I don’t need to throw so many punches," Canelo wrote.

It is uncertain if we will ever see McGregor and Canelo in a boxing match, but if they do square off it could be this series of posts that was the catalyst.
