Could the pair run it back?

Callum Smith’s brother believes it is ‘possible’ that he could set up a rematch with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Alvarez and Smith fought back in 2020 when the Mexican won the WBA super middleweight strap from the Briton on his journey to become undisputed at 168lbs.

He still holds that status but in his second switch to light heavyweight, he was on the receiving end of a dominant victory from WBA champion Dmitry Bivol.

Canelo has not ventured up the weight classes since then but has remained unbeaten at 168bls, with his last fight a win over Jermell Charlo last week.

It is yet to be announced who Canelo will fight next, but he traditionally puts on a Cinco de Mayo weekend show, so something will likely be confirmed in the coming months.

Smith, however, has his hands full with a fight this Saturday against unified light heavyweight champion and knockout specialist, Artur Beterbiev.

If Smith pulls off an upset victory, then his brother Paul thinks that he could entertain a 175lb rematch with Canelo.

He told Betway: “Nothing is off the table for the future, so we won’t rule it out. if it made sense, then of course it’s possible.

“Callum has a drive, ambition and desire to win all four belts, so if he did win on Saturday, it would be an obvious next step for him.”
