Leonard Ellerbe is fully aware of the talent Canelo Alvarez possesses after watching Floyd Mayweather share the ring with the Mexican icon in 2013.
Mayweather was too good for Canelo, but that hasn’t stopped Ellerbe, a key part of Mayweather’s team, from backing the veteran against Jaime Munguia this weekend.
Canelo will defend his undisputed super-middleweight title against Munguia on Saturday in Las Vegas and Ellerbe is expecting him to get the job done.
Munguia enters the contest as an unbeaten fighter and he looked impressive in his last bout against John Ryder, but that’s still not enough to convince Ellerbe he can win.
“Canelo is going to knock him out, yeah. In a brutal way. Brutal,” said Ellerbe when speaking on Sean Zittel’s YouTube channel.
“So he’ll [Munguia] be in for a rude awakening when he steps in there. It’s not like he’s looking at John Ryder or somebody else again.”
