Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo: Chris Algieri makes prediction

Canelo Alvarez is back in the ring this Saturday.

Canelo Alvarez is back in action this weekend as he makes another defence of his undisputed world super-middleweight title against Jermell Charlo.

Canelo sees action for the first time since May and victory over Charlo can open the door for future big contests against the likes of David Benavidez and a rematch with Dmitry Bivol.

Canelo starts the bout an overwhelming favourite as he welcomes Charlo to 168lbs after he proved his worth at super-welterweight.

Despite giving up a serious amount of size this weekend, Charlo does have his backers amongst the fight community, but Chris Algieri, a former world champion, thinks the Mexican icon will have too much for his latest challenger.

“I’ve got Canelo. We have weight classes for a reason. It’s a good big man vs. a good smaller man,” said Algieri when speaking to The Ring.

“Also, both men are not the busiest punchers and Canelo has very explosive eye-catching punches. It’s usually slick and active boxers that give Canelo the most issues.

“Charlo is excellent and I’m excited for this fight actually, but jumping two weight classes to fight a guy like Canelo is a stretch too far.”
