Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo: Former Gennadiy Golovkin trainer makes prediction

Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo: Former Gennadiy Golovkin trainer makes predictionEd Mullholland/Matchroom
Canelo Alvarez returns to action on September 30.

Abel Sanchez is a fighter who knows Canelo Alvarez well after attempting to take down the Mexican when training Gennadiy Golovkin.

The veteran trainer appeared to get his strategy right in 2017 when the Kazakh monster fought Canelo, but the bout was controversially scored a draw despite most believing Golovkin had done enough.

Six years on, Canelo faces Jermell Charlo and as he heads into that fight with a decent size advantage, Sanchez believes he should get the job done.

Charlo is making a huge leap in weight as he jumps two weight divisions and although Sanchez is a huge admirer of the Texan super-welterweight, he can’t look past Canelo when they clash on September 30.

“The first four or five rounds will be a little difficult for Canelo,” said Sanchez when speaking to Little Giant Boxing. “Once he figures out the speed, it’s going to be a fight like the Plant fight—he’ll wear him down.”

“Jermell is an exceptional fighter and has been the busier of the two brothers. He will give Canelo some difficulty, but Canelo will still beat him.”
