In his first taste of 154 pounds, Terence Crawford produced a unanimous decision in a high-level boxing chess match to defeat Israil Madrimov and become the new WBA super welterweight world champion.
So, after seeing how his skills and power translated to 154, is Crawford still game to move two more additional weight classes to 168 pounds to fight with unified super middleweight king Canelo Alvarez?
"You know what I say," Crawford began telling DAZN's Chris Mannix on Saturday night, "if the money's right, we got a fight."
He added: "But at the same time [Alvarez] got a fight that he's focused on, I'm going to go back to my family. I'm going to relax, I'm going to enjoy this win, enjoy all the accomplishments that I made in the sport of boxing."
As Crawford thought about the prospect of facing Alvarez at 168 pounds some more, he doesn't have any reluctance to making the bout happen.
"Not at all because I'm pretty sure [Madrimov] could fight at 168," Crawford offered. "This guy is big. In the amateurs, he fought at a higher weight than he is now and he was very competitive."
And Crawford figured out Madrimov enough to become a four-division world champion. So if he could do that to Madrimov, who's to say he can't show his boxing brilliance against Canelo?
"It's just another milestone to greatness, I suppose," Crawford said of the dream bout. "And financially-wise."
If Crawford is going to continue with his quest to fighting Alvarez at super middleweight, Alvarez will have to dispose of Edgar Berlanga on September 14, live on DAZN, first.
Earlier in the evening Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, told DAZN: "I [gave Alvarez] an offer. If he's smart, he'll accept it."
He added: "If they accept, we want to see this fight."
