Could Terence Crawford face Canelo Alvarez next year?

The idea of Terence Crawford jumping up to 168lbs to face Canelo Alvarez seems far-fetched to some in boxing, but Antonio Tarver is intrigued by the move.

Crawford proved his dominance at welterweight back in July when he produced the performance of his career to stop Errol Spence in Las Vegas.

Since that fight, Crawford has been linked to numerous names but the standout one has been Canelo who has since beaten Jermell Charlo.

Tarver, a former world champion at 175lbs who twice defeated Roy Jones Jr., has been impressed with Crawford’s run and he’s had his say on a potential switch to super-middleweight to challenge Canelo.

“It would be a lot more heated than the Charlo fight because Terence Crawford is one of those guys who means what he says,” said Tarver when speaking to Betway

“He isn’t there tapping, he’s standing on everything he says, and you have to respect fighters like that.

“I believe he would definitely have to get used to and adjusted to the natural strength and power of Canelo and that’s always the X Factor – power.”
