WBC and WBA super middlweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez sees little to worry about from Billy Joe Saunders, with the pair set to meet on May 8.
The duo are scheduled to fight at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, when WBO champion Saunders will meet in a bout that should see one fighter crowned unified champion with all three belts on the line.
Canelo is the favourite going into the fight and it is anticipated that the Mexican would then go on to face Caleb Plant in September for his IBF belt, and to become the division’s undisputed champion.
British fighter Saunders has said he is the most dangerous fighter that Canelo has fought since Floyd Mayweather, who comfortably beat him in 2013, but the two-belt champion is sceptical.
"We will see on May 8 if he is the best opponent that I've faced, but it's being assumed that he is. Yes, he is a fighter who moves a lot, he's left-handed, with experience. He is supposed to be one of the most difficult opponents that I've faced," Canelo said to Univision, reports BoxingScene.com.
Canelo also said that he expects to fight for seven more years, which would tee him up to fight in more divisions in the pursuit of belts, having fought at light heavyweight all the way down to welterweight.
"Walking to the ring is going to be one of the moments that I miss the most when I retire. I have seven more years, and I talk about it because at some point I am going to retire," Canelo said.
