The two 168lbs fighters appear set to fight.

Caleb Plant believes that he will fight Saul Canelo Alvarez as the pair aim to become undisputed super middleweight champion.

The 30-year-old Mexican moved up to 168lbs and has beaten Callum Smith and Avni Yildirim in his last two fights to set up a bout with champion Billy Joe Saunders, for the chance for either to become the WBA, WBC and WBO champion. That would leave Plant and his IBF belt as the last remaining piece for any champion aiming to unify the whole division.

Plant recently defended his belt against fellow American and namesake Caleb Truax, and told BoxingScene.com that he thinks that Alvarez will beat Saunders when the pair meet in May.

“I think Canelo will get past Billy Joe,” Plant said. “But I do think that Billy Joe has some attributes, mentally he’s not going to lay down—at least not right off the bat.”

Plant is just as keen on claiming all four belts at the weight.

“I’ve been saying that I’m looking to become undisputed,” he said.

“I’ve been saying that I wanted the Canelo fight. Hopefully we can get in there soon and make it happen. The stars are now aligned for me to do what I’ve always set out to do as a kid, which is to become undisputed champion.”
