Former world super middleweight champion Carl Froch found it difficult to pick his fight of the year.
The past 12 months have been full of big fights including a number of undisputed title matchups.
From the long-awaited welterweight showdown between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford to the two thrilling clashes between Katie Taylor and Chantelle Cameron, boxing certainly did not disappoint.
As 2023 comes to a close, it's a tradition for fans and fighters to pick their standout moments from the year, and Froch is no different who at first struggled to name his fight of the year.
"So many good ones. You’ve got to have Errol Spence and Terrence Crawford in there. Everyone expected it to be a close fight but it didn’t seem that competitive and the fight of the year has to be competitive," Froch told talkSPORT Boxing.
“Katie Taylor and Chantelle Cameron, that was a competitive close fight. Devin Haney versus Vasily Lomachenko, a lot of people thought Lomachenko won that so there is a bit of negativity around it. Anthony Yarde versus Artur Beterbiev. Yarde was in the fight but then he got Beterbiev-ed. That was a good fight.”
But after listing a number of potential contests for fight of the year, Froch finally made his pick for the accolade.
"Between them three, it’s what you like. Maybe Katie Taylor versus Chantelle Cameron because that was a good close fight and could have gone either way and we’re going to get the trilogy," Froch concluded.
Katie Taylor and Chantelle Cameron first met for the undisputed women's super lightweight title in May which saw Cameron declared the winner via a majority decision.
The pair then met once more for all four women's super lightweight titles six months later, and on that occasion, Taylor got her revenge and beat Cameron on points, and with the rivalry now standing at one win apiece, many are expecting a trilogy fight at some point in 2024.
