Could Carl Froch be tempted to fight again for the first time in seven years?

Carl Froch is the latest name to be linked to an exhibition bout. After retiring from the sport following a memorable knockout of George Groves in 2014 to close the door on their heated rivalry, Froch has largely been seen as a pundit.

Ringside in Dallas last weekend for Canelo Alvarez’ win over Billy Joe Saunders, “The Cobra” appeared content in his role outside the ropes but it seems a return to action could be imminent with Roy Jones Jr a potential opponent.

The Pensacola fighter took part in a contest with Mike Tyson at the backend of 2020 in an event that received substantial exposure. Their fight has opened the door for boxers from yesteryear with Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis reportedly eager to renew hostilities, and Froch is the latest name to register his interest.

“Listen, we’ve been approached by a company, I won’t say who it is yet,” said Froch to Talksport. “They’re trying to set up one of these fights like when Roy Jones fought Mike Tyson, actually classed as an exhibition contest.

“But if I go in there and it does work out that it happens, I ain’t gonna be taking any punches on my new nose let me tell you. I won’t be getting that flattened.”

Froch continued, “There’s definitely a chance, we’re in talks about how we can make this happen. This isn’t real professional boxing, it’s not 12x3minute rounds with 10oz gloves. I think the gloves are 12oz, so they still hurt. I used to spar in 16oz and knocked my sparring partners out on a regular basis.”

“It’s an 8x2minute rounds formula and I think it’s a chance for legends in the game — people who can’t compete at world level again — to get in there, demonstrate their skills and have a bit of fun as well.

“If Roy Jones hits me with a jab on the nose and I’m thinking, ‘Ow, that hurt,’ I’m gonna be looking to land an uppercut. It could all get out of hand.”
