Mexico's fighter Carlos Cuadras been patient while waiting for his next fight and after almost two years he is set for a fight which could change his future.
On February 5th in Phoenix - in a fight that will be broadcast exclusively live on DAZN worldwide (excluding Thailand) - the fighter from Sinaloa will attempt to recliam the WBC super flyweight championship against former champion Srinsaket Sor Rungvisai of Thailand.
Both men went head-to-head for the same title in Mexico City eight years ago and on that occasion it was "El Principe" Cuadras who beat Rungvisai by technical decision in eight rounds after an unintentional headbutt forced the fight to be stopped.
"He's a fighter I already know. But it's not the same now as it was seven years ago. I think this time has given me a lot of experience. He's older, with great wars, but he hasn't looked very good in the last few fights. I'm not confident, but I think I'm going to win that fight again," Caudras said in an interview with DAZN News.
Training at the Otomí Ceremonial Centre located in the mountains of Estado de Mexico, Cuadras talked about his preparation for this fight with the experienced trainer Manuel Lopez.
"This fight is super important, a watershed in my career because either I go back up or my career goes downhill. I think it's a very important watershed, that's why I'm preparing. I want to show that I'm the best super flyweight".
"No opponent is weak, I know, but I want to come out on top in this fight, because I have hopes of getting back at Gallo (Juan Francisco) Estrada or Chocolate (Roman Gonzalez), I think the fights I've had with them were very close. This will be a fight where I have to keep a cool head, not get hot, which is what happened to me in the fight with El Gallo, where I got hot and gave him his fight."
"I want to do my best, to be remembered as a great champion, not as a little champion who ended up being pitiful. I want to be remembered like the great Mexican legends and I want to be remembered for a long time."
"We can't make a false step in this fight. The opponent in front of me has a hammer in each hand. I can't make a false step. We have to stay focused. That's why I came to camp far away, where I can have boxing breakfast, lunch and dinner".
