The WBA interim champion knows what few else do.

The WBA interim middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. believes he knows how to beat Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Canelo is currently on course to become the unified super middleweight champion after defeating Billy Joe Saunders earlier this month , something which Eubank had bet on taking place before donating the winnings to charity.

The Mexican will next fight IBF champion Caleb Plant in September to attempt to become undisputed super middleweight champion.

Eubank meanwhile is looking for his next fight after defeating Marcus Morris on points. The British fighter thinks that the same route to victory against Canelo is simply not possible, and anybody who stands a chance against him must fight on the front foot.

“The only way to beat him – you’re not gonna beat him on points because he’s a powerhouse. I don’t know why you would try and go to points anyway because it’s gonna be hard to get a decision," Eubank said to talkSPORT .

“You wanna actually take it to him, you wanna hurt him, you wanna get his respect so that he stops trying to load up on you. And these guys are dancing around the ring just trying to get away from him for 12 rounds, I don’t understand it.

“My game plan would be to take the fight to him, to just be as much of an animal as he is to them and be the same to him. See how he holds up, he’s just used to guys running away.”

Eubank has never had time for Saunders, but also claimed that Canelo was not at his best during his triumph.

“Canelo was really, I was actually surprised at how little he was doing,” he said.

“I felt like if he had pressed him earlier he would’ve got him out of there earlier. He was happy to kind of just stroll forward, every once in a while land some nice clean shots, and then just kind of look at what he’s done and let Billy dance around and run off.

“Then he’d come back and eventually he just caught up with him. It wasn’t a great performance, he’s very active, very strong, but yeah he caught Billy with a shot in the eighth.”
