Chris Mannix and Sergio Mora both agreed that Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano was the best fight of the year.

The two fought in Madison Square Garden, New York, to contest the undisputed lightweight title, with Taylor retaining her belts.

Such was the quality of the fight that there were immediate calls for a rematch and may come to pass in 2023, with suggestions that a homecoming event could be made for Taylor in Ireland’s Croke Park venue.

“Taylor-Serrano was epic. You had two fighters who had been circling each other for years, the build-up was there, the drama was there, the value was rare. Undisputed lightweight championship on the line,” Mannix said.

“Usually in a big fight you have 80% fans for one, 20% for the other. This felt like a 50-50 split down the middle.

“The fight had a little bit of everything. Competitive rounds early on, a dramatic rush in the middle rounds by Amanda Serrano, an incredible rally by Katie Taylor at the end.”

Mora concurred, saying: “I agree, this wasn’t women’s boxing, this was boxing. This was boxing's fight of the year. It was pound for pound No.1 vs. No.2. It was held at the Mecca, only the biggest fights are held at Madison Square Garden.

“It was a sell out , it was promoted excellently. Fireworks were there, it was a close, competitive fight to the end. Both of them really struggled to get that inner strength to pour it out to the end. Not only women, not only boxing, but everything in general, and that’s why it’s the fight of the year.”
