The young welterweight is emerging as another contender in the American-dominated division.

Sergio Mora believes that Conor Benn could be a superstar if he crosses the pond after his dominant display against Samuel Vargas at the weekend.

The British welterweight considered Vargas his toughest test so far but he stopped him in under 90 seconds after unleashing a flurry of blows that had the Canadian-Colombian on the back foot from the off.

Speaking on JABS with Chris Mannix, Mora was impressed with Benn’s performance, not just in the ring but in the build-up.

“Brilliant performance by Conor Benn, and I think he has all the right things, all the attributes to make him the next big star,” he said.

“He has the looks, he has the power, he has the speed. He has charisma, when you heard him talk in Spanish to Samuel Vargas, that sold me.”

Mora thinks that such was the strength of his performance and personality that he could be a success if he switched to boxing stateside.

“You know what, that sold a lot of people across the pond. Speaking Spanish and being British, looking the tough guy. That’s the promoter’s dream, and I think Eddie Hearn realises that, and people are going to catch on that this is a marketable name.

“And he comes from lineage, he comes from greatness. He’s got that last name. This was a great win for Benn.”

Mora explained that it was a striking win considering it was a step up for the 24-year-old, who now wants to fight Amir Khan.

“To get a first round knockout is really tough to do especially when you’re doing it against the best fighter to date,” he said.

“That's impressive, that's why we’re talking about him. Whether he’s going to build his fanbase in the UK or come across the pond.

The man can speak Spanish, for God’s sake. He can go anywhere. He’s relatable, he's good looking, he’s knocking people out.”
