Sergio Mora believes that Jaime Munguia needs to fight a tougher opponent than Shane Mosley Jr. in his next fight.

First of all, Munguia needs to get past Sergiy Derevyanchenko on Saturday night in California, in a fight shown live on DAZN.

Mosley is on the undercard for the event, and Chris Mannix wondered if the American might be a future opponent for the Mexican.

Speaking to JABS on DAZN, Mora acknowledged that Mosley is the kind of fighter that Munguia has on his resume after a couple of years looking to build a track record, but thinks he needs to aim higher.

He explained: “History doesn’t lie, if you look at the last couple of years of Munguia’s resume, these are tough guys, kind-of gatekeepers - [Gabe] Rosado - but they're not champions. So we’re hitting that path.

“Mosley is a good fight, he would mesh stylistically nice, but it’s not the fight we need. Munguia at over 40 fights, undefeated, former champion - yeah, it’s time.”

Mannix suggested he may even be a favourite against some world champions, like Jermall Charlo or Gennadiy Golovkin, but Mora was a little more reticent.

“I don’t think he’ll be a favourite against Charlo or GGG, but I see him having success against Charlo,” he suggested.

“Charlo’s inactivity and the fact he’s a naturally smaller fighter. GGG I still think has Munguia’s number. You can’t beat experience. You can’t beat the fact that GGG is a big puncher, and has fought at super middleweight.

“That’d be a difficult fight. That’s the biggest name Munguia can get, GGG is still a dangerous fighter .GGG makes all the sense, someone who hasn’t been stopped is a legitimate, 50-50 fight. I don’t understand why it’s not makeable.”
