Dalton Smith retained his British super-lightweight title with a stunning seventh round knockout over Sam Maxwell in Sheffield.
Smith was in control from the bout’s outset and could've closed matters in the sixth session, but he didn’t have to wait much longer as he ended matters with a brilliant shot in the following round.
Despite being cut over both eyes, Smith was always the fighter in control and with victory he now takes Maxwell’s Commonwealth strap.
Maxwell found it hard to get into the fight due to Smith countering very well but when the moment came for the local fighter to take advantage of a brief lapse in Maxwell’s defence, he wasted no time with a superb right hand.
After securing the Lonsdale title outright, Smith will now switch his attention to bigger fights as he targets the biggest names at 140lbs.
