Dalton Smith teases future showdown with British knockout artist

Dalton Smith teases future showdown with British knockout artistDAZN

Following what was a busy and successful 2022, Dalton Smith looks to get this year off to a winning start when he makes another defence of his British super lightweight title against Billy Allington on February 18 live on DAZN (except Australia and New Zealand).

Despite having just 13 professional fights, Smith is already being touted as a future world champion, but in addition to these expectations, fans are also eager to see the Sheffield fighter take on fellow Brit Adam Azim.

Azim returns to action this weekend when he takes on Santos Reyes at the OVO Arena Wembley and will be looking to produce a seventh successive win by way of knockout.

With both men billed as two exciting British boxing talents, it seems inevitable that the two will meet at some point down the line, but for Smith, Azim is not someone who features in his immediate plans.

"Adam’s doing well, I’m impressed with what he’s done," Smith said in an exclusive interview with DAZN

"My career doesn’t depend on nobody, but as long as we keep winning and the fight’s there in the future, there’s no reason why we can’t make it happen.

"That fight is a million miles away so my attention is not on that at all at the minute, I want Adam to keep doing well.

"I like him as a fighter, I like him as a person, he’s got my full support. So as long as we keep winning and get to the top of our game, there is no reason why it’s not a potential fight further down the line."

While a fight with Azim seems way off, he is someone Smith is keeping an eye on and this was evident when 'Thunder' was spotted ringside during Azim's win over Rylan Charlton last November.
