Daniel Dubois could fight Kubrat Pulev if he beats Derek Chisora, claims Shane McGuiganDAZN

Daniel Dubois could fight Kubrat Pulev if the Bulgarian defeats Derek Chisora this weekend, according to Shane McGuigan.

McGuigan - Dubois’ trainer - also believes that the young Briton could also be ready for a rematch with Joe Joyce.

Joyce fought last weekend to swat aside Christian Hammer in just four rounds, and in 2020 was the first fighter to stop Dubois, leaving him with a broken eye socket.

Since then, Dubois has carefully rebuilt his career and this year went to America to defeat Trevor Bryan, becoming the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight champion in the process and positioning himself for a challenge against Oleksandr Usyk should he defeat Anthony Joshua in their rematch.

McGuigan sees a chance of a second fight between the two Britons, he told Sky Sports.

"Joe Joyce has just won at the weekend and looked his typical self. He got hit a lot but he also overwhelmed his opponent Hammer in very quick fashion so he's a very hard night's work for anyone," he said.

"Maybe that's a fight we can get down the line. Maybe in the not-too-distant future because they're both at that stage of their careers. The fight was in the balance, the first one, so it'll be a good fight as well.

"I don't think either of them performed to their best ability. Joe had much more in the tank, he was still boxing reserved, boxing clever and Daniel was distressed with the eye. So he was doing certain things that he naturally shouldn't do or wouldn't do if he was in full health.

"It maybe came a little bit too soon, not just for Dan but probably for both of them. Because it could have been built into a much bigger spectacle. If we can get it again, it would be amazing."

McGuigan also thinks that Dubois would be a decent opponent for Pulev should he win his fight against Chisora, shown live this Saturday on DAZN.

He explained: "There are some great fights out there for him. You've got Chisora vs.Pulev. I think Pulev will probably win that fight. Pulev's a great fight for someone like Daniel if he comes through the Chisora one.

"Dillian Whyte's a great fight for Daniel. I'm not sure Dillian will want it because of where he is in his career. There's easier fights for him that will make more money and draw more attention, so that one might be a hard one to make.

"Also the fact that Dan's got a WBA 'regular' title can help bring in decent names. So there's quite a lot of opponents. But I would like someone that's known, someone that people know, whether it's a former [Anthony Joshua] opponent, even a former Dillian Whyte opponent, [where] he can try and better that performance."
