Daniel Dubois just put Joe Joyce and the entire heavyweight division on further notice of the destruction he's capable of.
The surging 22-year-old heavyweight dropped Ricardo Snijders four times en route to a second-round TKO victory at the BT Sport Studio in Stratford on Saturday night. Dubois (15-0, 14 KOs) can now look for a more serious test against 34-year-old Joe Joyce, as the two have a planned bout for Oct. 24.
The big-punching Dubois treated Snijders just like the stay-busy opponent he figured to be, uncorking a crunching left hook to the body that dropped the Dutch boxer with 40 seconds remaining in the first round. A short left uppercut seconds later made Snijders taste the canvas yet again, before Dubois dropped him one more time with a right to the head.
Although Snijders survived the opening round, Dubois made sure he wouldn't last more than 20 seconds during the second. As soon as the frame started, Dubois smothered Snijders against the ropes and unleashed a barrage of punches until a punishing right hook followed by a short left hook to the body triggered the fourth knockdown. The referee saw more than enough evidence to end the bout right then and there.
If Dubois is going to push his name into the conversation of upper-echelon heavyweights, a win over Joyce in October will certainly help. Joyce (11-0, 10 KOs) is undefeated like Dubois and counts a victory over former world heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne.
Snijders was a replacement for Erik Pfeifer, who wasn't medically cleared for the bout with Dubois.
