Danny Garcia is ready to step up for a middleweight clash with Erislandy Lara.

The 34-year-old fighter kicked off his career in 2007 at 140lbs, winning world titles, before doing the same at welterweight.

He has now moved up to 154lbs with his first win coming against Jose Benavidez Jr.

Talking to BoxingScene.com, Garcia reflected on his progress.

“At 140, I was so much stronger than those guys,” Garcia said.

“I just walked right through them so I didn't have to show my boxing skills. I’m an amateur champion. I was number one in 2006, I was an alternate in 2007. I thought I should've went to the Olympics. A lot of people don’t know I got a great boxing pedigree. I’m from Philly, that’s all they teach out there is to box.”

After defeats against three of the weltereweight division's biggest names - Errol Spence Jr., Keith Thurman, and Shawn Porter - Garcia believed he became over-reliant on his punching power.

“I fell in love with my power in the pros," he explained.

"I was just so much bigger than people and I was just walking them down. I think that’s what caused me a little bit at 147, just trying to knock everybody out.”

While Garcia is open to fighting the current junior middleweight undisputed champion, Jermell Charlo, he is also keen to take on WBA 'regular' middleweight champion Lara at a catchweight of 155lbs, saying: “I love that fight for me, I love that fight for me.”
