Demsey McKean aiming for world title fight after DAZN clash

Demsey McKean aiming for world title fight after DAZN clashDAZN

Unbeaten Australian heavyweight Demsey McKean fights for the IBF Intercontinental championship when he faces off with Patrick Korte on Saturday night.

The fight, shown live on DAZN (check for regions), gives McKean the chance to claim the vacant belt as he plans his move up the division rankings.

McKean has moved to England in order to enjoy better training and he believes the switch has already started to help him improve.

Speaking to DAZN, he was nonetheless pleased to be back in his home country.

“I’m looking forward to heading home to Australia, especially my hometown Brisbane," he said.

"I haven’t fought back home in just over a year and a half so it’s going to be a nice big crowd, like it always is.

He described how things have improved for him.

He added: “I’ve been improving a lt. I can see the adjustments I’m making. Rotating my shots a lot more, more power. Sparring as well. Sparring is what’s helping me level up a lot. I didn’t have the sparring partners back home.

“The best decision I’ve made. I can’t wait to showcase these skills.

“I’ve invested a lot of money in myself to make the move over here. It’s quite expensive here in London. It’s an investment in myself. The money will come back tenfold. The big fights will come.”

Looking ahead from his next fight, he hopes to be positioned for a step up to take on a bigger name.

“There are a lot of big names out there, especially under the Matchroom banner. You have Dillian Whyte, Anthony Joshua, [Filip] Hrgovic, [Zhang] Zhilei, Chisora,” he listed.

“There’s big fights right there and we’ve been in negotiations with a few of those . At the moment, very close.

“I’ve got to make sure I go out there and put on a dominant performance. Then onto the next.”
