Heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder seemingly mocked Dillian Whyte for his surprise defeat to Alexander Povetkin on Saturday.

Deontay Wilder appeared to mock Dillian Whyte following Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin’s surprise win for the WBC interim challenger title.

Povetkin defeated Whyte with a knockout in the fifth round of their Fight Camp Week 4 match-up on Saturday evening.

The taunt recalled Whyte’s laughter as Tyson Fury beat Wilder for the WBC belt back in February.

After the 32-year-old Briton’s defeat on Saturday, Wilder took to Twitter to say, “I believe in glaz za glaz!!!”

Translated from Russian, "glaz za glaz" means "an eye for an eye", suggesting Wilder was returning the favour to Whyte.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Whyte will be exercising an option to enforce a rematch, and the fighter himself is keen on an early rematch.

“The main thing is we’ve got a rematch, we’re gonna exercise the rematch, try and get it done by the end of the year,” Whyte told Sky Sports.

“I’ll have a couple weeks’ rest and get straight back in the gym.

“It’s not like I need to improve on anything really."

The WBC have suggested that with no date set for Povetkin to challenge for the WBC title, the mandatory fight qualification will likely be at stake for the Whyte-Povetkin rematch.
