Former WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been a long journey ahead of his fight against Joseph Parker on Saturday live on DAZN PPV.
Wilder, who is one of, if not the hardest puncher in the heavyweight division, was involved in one of boxing's thrilling trilogies against Tyson Fury.
While the American failed to win any of three matchups against Fury, each contest was an entertaining affair, but after brutal back-to-back stoppage losses, some fans questioned whether Wilder would be the same fighter again.
Following these matchups, there were a number 'cheating' claims towards Fury from Wilder and these are accusations he still holds to this day.
But now Wilder has revealed that a small retreat in South America has proven vital to getting his career back on track along with changing his mentality outside of the ring.
"It isn't so much what I think Fury did, it was what I know he did. But God said ‘victory is not yours, it's his’, so I walk on that path," Wilder told Lucky Block.
"What I think has helped me a lot with life and what has made me happier - because I have proof of a lot of things Fury did - but that's neither here nor there. But what has helped me on the journey of life is Ayahuasca.
"Ayahuasca has been a beautiful thing. I advise everyone to explore those options of taking Ayahuasca. It has definitely released something in me, a lot of people say that I'm more sensitive to things and happier - and I feel that way ever since leaving Ayahuasca."
"I feel so much happier and a release of things. It's a beautiful thing," Wilder added.
"I appreciate the smallest things in life, not saying I didn't before, but I do even more on a wider scale.
"I'm happier and smiling more and a lot of people get sceptical about Ayahuasca because of certain things and they get frightful, but I always tell people you must overcome your fears because your fears can hold you back from reaching the next level.”
Wilder's clash with Parker this weekend could be the perfect springboard Wilder needs if he is to challenge at the top level once more. Not only could there be a chance to become a two-time world champion, but there is also the possibility of a long-awaited showdown with Anthony Joshua which has been a matchup craved by fans for a number of years.
You can watch the Day of Reckoning, featuring Anthony Joshua vs. Otto Wallin, Deontay Wilder vs. Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois vs. Jarrell Miller, on DAZN PPV on Saturday, December 23. Click here for more details.
