Heavyweight boxer Dereck Chisora has credited finding God as the reason for turning his life around and dedicating his efforts to boxing.
In 2010, Chisora was found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend of the time, and he also has convictions for public order offences and assaulting a police officer.
Two years later, Chisora had his boxing license withdrawn due to his behavior surrounding and during his fight with Wladimir Klitschko.
The former British heavyweight titleholder confronted David Haye after the pair exchanged insults at a press conference with the two involved with a brief melee until security separated them. Chisora was arrested by German police due to the incident, but he and Haye would ultimately reconcile, with Haye becoming his manager.
In 2016, he narrowly avoided a driving ban after driving a car without a valid license.
In a press conference to promote his fight with Oleksandr Usyk, Chisora claimed that “Faith is the right way to go.
“I cut out my drinking. I’m coming up for three years sober, it’s a big part of the third part of my career, coming back.”
In the last three years, Chisora has had a relatively productive period, with six wins from his last eight fights, as well as repairing his relationship with Haye to the surprise of many observers.
