Dereck Chisora has praised Oleksandr Usyk ahead of their bout this weekend and expects plenty of big-hitting from his side, at least.
The heavyweight pair are due to meet this Saturday in their first post-lockdown action, and the 36-year-old Chisora refused to trash talk his rival.
“This guy is a good guy,” he said. “He won a gold medal. He won everything he was given [in the cruiserweight division]. For me to say anything bad about this guy makes me look stupid.
“He’s done it all. He’s a good fighter. He’s a good athlete.”
Despite his lack of experience as a heavyweight, he considered the Ukrainian as one of the top ten fighters in the weight class.
“He’s in the top ten. He’s coming up to heavyweight, a good fighter. He’s in my top ten. I’m a big fan of his.”
Chisora explained how he had prepared for his opponent in sparring, who has not yet convinced at his new weight, but who brings with him technique and speed from the division below.
“All I needed to get was southpaws, for the way they stand and the way they move their feet. The game is in play because the punches are going to land,” he said.
Warming to his theme, Chisora continued: “It’ll be a shock to him. If you’ve got power ready, you’re good. We’re going to see if he’s got the power to bother any heavyweight.
“When I land my punches he’ll know he’s been hit.”
He then explained the tactics he aims to use, expecting plenty of punches to be thrown by both men.
“I have to go to him. I have to chuck my punches in three or fours. I’m a man with nothing to lose, but I bring entertainment to fans. I’m going to war.
“He chose to fight me. I’m going to have to eat some leather. He’s going to have to eat my leather.
“I’m going to have to use power punches. For this fight, I’m going to go there and do what I need to do.”
