Derek Chisora’s advice for Anthony Joshua ahead of Oleksandr Usyk rematch: ‘He has to hit the guy hard'Mark Robinson/Matchroom Boxing

What do both Derek Chisora and former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua have in common?

They have both faced Oleksandr Usyk.

Chisora fought Usyk in the Ukrainian’s second fight as a heavyweight in October 2020 and while the 38-year-old caused a few problems in the opening rounds, Usyk was able to gain control of the fight and beat Chisora on points.

Usyk then went onto face Joshua for the WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight titles last September at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and produced a huge upset by beating Joshua on points in a dominant performance.

Now the two meet in a much anticipated rematch on August 20 in Saudi Arabia and Chisora told DAZN one simple piece of advice he would give Joshua for the second fight.

“He [Joshua] has to hit the guy [Usyk] hard.”

Usyk’s impressive movement has played a vital role in his success during his time as a both a cruiserweight and heavyweight, and if Joshua is to overcome the former undisputed world cruiserweight champion, Chisora believes his fellow countryman needs to slow Usyk down if he has any chance of becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion.

“He’s always on different angles, AJ has to sort that out to stop moving him,” Chisora said.

“There’s only one way you stop moving a guy like that and that’s hit him on the elbows, hips, everywhere, his movement will become less.”
