Derrick James gives positive verdict on Anthony Joshua's performance against Jermaine FranklinDAZN

Anthony Joshua's new trainer Derrick James was happy with his how fighter performed against Jermaine Franklin on Saturday night.

After beating the American on all three judges' scorecards, Joshua has been criticised for not being able to bring the fight to an early end.

This maybe due to numerous factors including the fact that the British star has only been working with James for eight weeks, but when speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show after the fight, the 51-year-old Texan said that he was happy with what he saw at the O2 Arena.

"I was happy because he did exactly what I wanted him to do," James began.

"People said they wanted him to do this and that, that wasn’t in my plan.

"When given somebody new, you have to simplify to where he’s not thinking about it, he can just do it naturally.

"The movements and everything that he did, Jermaine Franklin is a tough fighter and he’s going to fight you until the end."

But while James said that he would have been happy to see Joshua knock out Franklin, it's something that he does not expect his fighters to do due to the amount of pressure that can place on their shoulders.

"Would I want him to knock him out? Yeah," James stated.

"I don’t ask my guys to do that because it’s a whole lot of pressure."
