Devin Haney will emerge victorious in a lightweight encounter against Vasiliy Lomachenko if their much-speculated meeting takes place next.
That’s the verdict of Geroge Kambosos Jr, a former unified world champion at lightweight who’s fully aware of what sharing a ring with Haney is all about.
The Australian star shocked the world in 2021 when he travelled to America to defeat Teofimo Lopez in a shocking upset in New York.
The victory over Lopez placed Kambosos at the top of the deep 135lbs rankings, but his stay there was brief as he lost back-to-back encounters with Haney the following year.
Despite being second best to the talented American on both occasions, Kambosos admires his former rivals and he’s backing him to emerge victorious against the legendary Ukrainian.
“I see Haney defending his belts against Lomachenko. I really do like Lomachenko as a person and as a fighter. I just think its father time has caught him, and Haney is just too good,” said Kambosos when speaking to Sporting News Australia.
“Stylistically, it’s a bad match-up for him, Lomachenko. It was for me as well, but that’s the risk we take as fighters. I think he [Haney] looks good in that fight, makes a statement, and vacates the belts.”
